Thank you for visiting Peace Child Sierra Leone online! PCSL was set up in 1994 as a field office of Peace Child International -with his own independence and autonomy- to promote and engage children, youth and women in development issues throughout the country. PCSL has been working with all strata meaningful for children, youth and women throughout the country ranging from human rights, environment, youth enterprise and youth led development-building peace through youth employment. The background of this initiative was the aftermath of a hugely divisive civil conflict which has scarred the childhoods of almost all youths and women in Sierra Leone. By encouraging these people to work together on constructive projects, in partnerships with adults and young overseas volunteers, they will gain a sense of their own, and their nation’s future. Peace is not something that can be sought in isolation, taught in schools or discussed in community focused groups. Peace is the by-product of gainful employment, social stability, educational opportunity, good health and hope- items that this organization is designed to create. It is a unique service organization registered in Sierra Leone, to help children, youth and women both in the rural and urban areas to understand new concepts about development and voluntarism issues from different cultures in the pursuit of a common goal.
